Tailgating

Tailgating

Tailgating at MSU is one of the greatest experiences OUR state has to offer! OUR experience was even more enhanced by the addition of the Junction in 2007. For fans to have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible, Bulldog tailgaters are asked to follow certain rules and regulations on gameday:

No tailgate setups before 4 pm the day before the game.
At 4 p.m., the campus will play "Hail State," symbolizing the appropriate time for fans to make the mad dash to set up their tailgating tents.
All tailgating areas close at midnight every evening.
Please remember that many students call MSU home during the academic year. Please be respectful and mindful of their presence on campus.
No wheeled vehicles or trailers are permitted.
Carts, trailers, cookers, etc. are prohibited from tailgating areas for the safety of fans. Also, please be mindful that thousands of pedestrians must use the sidewalks and crosswalks provided on campus. Help keep foot traffic areas clear for safe passage.
Tailgating
Generators are allowed, but battery inverters are preferred.
Don't let the chicken strips taste like exhaust! Please be mindful of other tailgaters and setup power sources in a safe and non-evasive manner.
Electric outlets on campus light poles are strictly off limits to tailgaters.
Grills/Fire Pits
All grills must have access to a fire extinguisher.
Charcoal grills are allowed, but keep the campus' beautification in mind. MSU is well known as an agricultural school, and has some of the finest landscape faculty and staff in the nation. Please help make their jobs easier by respecting the campus and help take care of it.
  • Coals should be doused and properly disposed of after use. Dumping coals on the ground is prohibited.
Large grills pulled by vehicles are prohibited in tailgating areas unless approved by the Athletic Department.
  • Pull behind grills are allowed in paid parking lots for a $20 charge ($40 for truck/trailer).

Fire Pits
  • Fire pits, fires built on the ground, or any type of open flames are prohibited on campus. Tents and other tailgating items are not designed to be exposed to high heat, so please do not build fires and keep a close eye on grills.
Restrooms
To provide an enjoyable atmosphere on gameday, certain buildings on campus are open for restroom access in addition to portable toilets that include MSU's Junction Janes/Johns. (Click for map)
Buildings open six hours before kickoff and close two hours after the end of the game.

Pick Ups
After the game, tons of fans pour out of the gates of Davis Wade Stadium, and such a large number of pedestrians cause certain precautionary safety measures to be taken.
Certain roads will remain closed
  • Stone Blvd. will remain closed for up to one and a half hours after the game for MSU staff to clear foot traffic and assist with egress off campus.
  • Tailgaters in the Junction, Fan Fair and Barnes and Nobles areas are asked to keep this in mind and please be patient while pedestrians clear the area. Once cleared, tailgaters may return with a vehicle to pick up their supplies.
All fans refusing to comply with rules and regulations in the tailgating areas are subject to being asked to leave the area. The university reserves the right to remove or ban any individual not complying with university, city and state policies or ordinances.
